Stephen was charged as a blasphemer of God, and an apostate from the church; therefore he shows that he is a son of Abraham, and values himself on it. The slow steps by which the promise made to Abraham advanced toward performance, plainly show that it had a spiritual meaning, and that the land intended was the heavenly. God owned Joseph in his troubles, and was with him by the power of his Spirit, both on his own mind by giving him comfort, and on those he was concerned with, by giving him favour in their eyes. Stephen reminds the Jews of their mean beginning as a check to priding themselves in the glories of that nation. Likewise of the wickedness of the patriarchs of their tribes, in envying their brother Joseph; and the same spirit was still working in them toward Christ and his ministers. The faith of the patriarchs, in desiring to be buried in the land of Canaan, plainly showed they had regard to the heavenly country. It is well to recur to the first rise of
usages, or sentiments, which have been perverted. Would we know the nature and effects of justifying faith, we should study the character of the father of the faithful. His calling shows the power and freeness of Divine grace, and the nature of conversion. Here also we see that outward forms and distinctions are as nothing, compared with separation from the world, and devotedness to God

Moses is chosen by God to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and into the land of Canaan, which God has promised to them. Pharaoh then decides to seek the Israelites with chariots, and he catches them at Pi-hahiroth. Moses is commanded by God to hold his staff out over the water, and throughout the night a strong east wind divides the sea, and the Israelites pass through with a wall of water on either side. The Egyptians pursue, but at dawn, God clogs their chariot-wheels and throws them into a panic, and with the return of the water the pharaoh and his entire army are destroyed. When the Israelites see the power of God they put their faith in God and in Moses and sing a song of praise to the Lord for the crossing of the sea.

Then amaziah, the priest of bethel, sent word to king jeroboam II that Amos had conspired against him and that the land was not able to bear all his words. He said that jeroboam would die by the sword and is isreal must go into exile. To Amos, amaziah said, o seer, go flee to the land of Judah, eat bread there, and prophesy there; but never again prophesy at bethel. Amos replied ! I am no prophet, nor a prophets son.I am a herdsman, and a dresser of sycamore trees. The lord took me from following the flock to go and prophesy to my people, is real. Therefore, hear the word of the lord. For ordering me to shut up, your wife shall become harlot in the city; your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword. Your land shall be parcelled out by line. You yourself shall die in and unclean land and is real shall surely go into exile away from its land.

Although their gathering was illegal according to Jewish law, they then agreed to kill Jesus. During the trial, they sought false testimony against Jesus in order to put him to death, but found none.
Later two false witnesses came forward and said Jesus said he can destroy the Jerusalem temple and rebuild it in three days but Jesus did not respond to any of the accusations and was silent.

(9a). Peter advised the Christians living among non-Christians to abstain from fleshy lust since it battles against the soul.
He told them to engage in honest conversation among the Gentiles so that even if they speak against them, their good works would force the Gentiles to glorify God.
Peter told them to subject themselves to every human institution whether it is the Emperor himself or the Governors that have been sent to reward those who do good and punish those who do wrong. According to Peter, if they do this, they will put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
He advised them to live as free men but should not use their freedom as a pretext to engage in evil. They should live as servants of God. They should honour all men, love the brotherhood, fear God and honour the emperor.
Peter explained that they would receive no glory if they are punished for doing the wrong thing, but if they are punished for doing the right thing and they endure, it is acceptable before God.
Peter concluded that Christ himself suffered the same faith. According to Peter, Jesus was reviled but he did not reply. Therefore, the people must copy Christ’s example.
